Our Story

A Cape Cod
Institution

Since 1957, Baxter's has been the place where Cape Cod gathers for fresh seafood, warm summer days, and unforgettable waterfront views.

Perched on the edge of Hyannis Harbor, Baxter's is the only Hyannis restaurant where you can arrive by boat. Tie up at our working dock, tune into Marine Channel 71, and let the harbor breezes set the mood. Families, fishermen, and the Kennedy family have all found their way here — and so will you.

Our menu features the freshest catch the Cape has to offer: whole belly clams, native scallops, swordfish off the grill, and our legendary lobster rolls.

The Only Hyannis Restaurant You Can Arrive to by Boat

Tie up at our working waterfront dock, order a round, and stay awhile. We're the only restaurant in Hyannis Harbor where you can pull right up to your table. Hail us on Marine Channel 71 to check slip availability.

Our Heritage

A Family Legacy

Early 1900s

Benjamin D. Baxter, a local sea captain, establishes the family's connection to the waterfront property at 177 Pleasant Street in Hyannis.

1919

Benjamin D. Baxter Jr. purchases the waterfront property, initially operating it as a fish packing facility.

1930s

Warren Baxter opens a fish market in the building that now houses the Boathouse. The Baxter family's fishing heritage runs deep.

1957

Warren's wife introduces a commercial Fryolator in a dock shed — and Baxter's legendary fish and chips are born.

July 4, 1967

The modern Hyannis Harbor restaurant officially opens, soon attracting notable guests including members of the Kennedy family.

Today

Still family-run, still fresh, still the best seat on the harbor. Baxter's endures as one of Cape Cod's most beloved waterfront destinations.
